The Importance of Your Participation

Each year, our Local determines one-third of its leadership by electing candidates to serve on our Executive Board.

Unfortunately, we have consistently seen very little participation in this important process, as typically only about 20% of the ballots are returned.

Our Constitution says that these positions shall be elected based on a majority of the ballots returned. With less than a 20% return, this means that your leadership is being chosen by only 10% of our entire membership.

This is no way to select leaders to represent the interests of all our members.

It is so important that you participate in the election process and that you make your voices heard. Please be active in electing the officers that represent you. I encourage you to take the time to understand each candidate’s proposals and positions, and to make your selections based off that information.

Again, please participate and return your ballot. Let’s make sure that the members chosen to represent you are members you feel will best represent your interests and the goals you have for your career.

 Let’s make sure that our leadership is elected by a majority of all our members, and not by only 10% of the membership.
